EDIT: changing the file to .jpg makes it fuzzier than it's supposed to be and takes away a lot of the effect. Ugh. I'm sorry.
This is the first out of four in a series of Beatles-inspired expressionist pieces. I was listening to the 'I Am Sam' soundtrack at the time, and so found lyrics to suit the works.
I originally chose these colours because I wanted something bright that stands out, and we all know that the combination of red, white and black are THE most stand-out colours there is. McDonalds, Coke and Hitler have used that colour combination, afterall.
I really liked the colours and their proportions to eachother (lots of red, grey washes and highlights and dark shadows of white and black), so I decided to do a few more pictures with the exact same technique- and hence, you get a little series of them.
I also like the red/black/white/grey combination because you can EASILY tell where the highlights are. I worked out that my pieces that have a white background look odd because the background is brighter/lighter than the colour I'm highlighting with, so it's a bit confusing. So I've kind of experimented a bit with background colours lately. ^_^
I think the red goes well with the idea of 'Revolution', and the pose of the body is straight and just a tad in-your-face, maybe with a hint of attitude. That's why I think the lyrics suited it so well. The other titles in the series aren't as well suited, so don't expect a good description of them, either. ;;;
I guess if you really wanted to you, as the audience, could take this as having a feminist meaning. Go ahead! Read into it what you will. I'm a firm believer of that uh... "As soon as the writer/artist is finished with his work, it belongs to the audience" thing-o.
(Done in Paint with tablet. May use OpenCanvas for these later, but I like the pixel-y effect right now.)
